Detwiler sings...Il balen del suo sorriso (Verdi's IL TROVATORE, 2025)
In rehearsal for singing this for the public on 9/17 and in prep for November Concert version in New Jersey! Betsi Hodges, pianist There are at least 4 other Verdi arias I feel I can roll out of bed and sing (MACBETH, UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, DON CARLO, FORD) - but THIS isn't one of them. However, I desire to conquer this, one of the most beautifully lyrically and wrongfully passionate pieces and characters from Verdi's library - the Count di Luna. With it's unrelenting legato and upper middle tessitura, it is probably one of the most challenging in the rep for many baritones! My top 5 favorite singers in this and for different reasons: * Giorgio Zancanaro * Robert Merrill * Ettore Bastianini * Ludovic Tezier * Carlo Tagliabue
